The Truth behind Skipping Meals

Many people who wish to lose weight are too lazy to work out a detailed plan and stick to it for a sufficient period of time. They fail to recognize the importance of a combination of a proper exercise routine and a balanced diet. Hence, they think that simple abstinence from eating for an extended period of time will help them reduce weight. This is the worst thing you can do. Not only is this very detrimental to your health, it also contributes nothing to your plan to lose weight.

There are several reasons why skipping meals is very dangerous. The most obvious reason is that by starving yourself, you only end up eating more later on. Moreover, you destroy your metabolism. Our system slows down when we do not provide it with sufficient calories so that it may conserve energy. This means that fewer calories are burned and consequently we are left with more fat. However, it gets more serious than this. When you skip meals, your body is weaker. This means that you are not strong enough to deal with demanding everyday tasks, such as operating a vehicle. You are overcome by fatigue, stress and anxiety and this can put you in life threatening situations. Furthermore, you can put others at risk, such as your family and friends.

It is normal to think that in order to lose weight we should eat less. We need to burn more calories than we consume. However, what people fail to understand is that eating less does not mean eating less often. The best way to lose weight is to eat smaller meals more frequently. More importantly, eating less can never mean not eating at all. We all need calories to function properly, regardless of our weight. Nobody can stop eating forever. Yet, the most common mistake that people make is to avoid eating much during the day when they are most active. When evening comes, they realize that they can no longer bear the hunger and end up eating bigger meals just a couple of hours before going to bed. This is why skipping meals actually makes people fatter.

To lose weight definitely, you need to invest a lot of effort. There are no easy solutions, such as simply avoiding food altogether. People who have been trying to lose weight for years without following a strict program can confirm this. You should learn from their mistakes in order to avoid seriously jeopardizing your health by skipping meals every so often.
