Menopausal Weight Gain

Menopause frequently, if not always, goes hand in hand with weight problems. Menopause frequently, if not always, goes hand in hand with weight problems. The statistics show that about 90% of women in their menopausal period have to struggle with weight that they inevitably gain. This is not the best and nicest time ever and for some women can really be pretty dramatic. Not only the understanding of inevitable aging comes but all the changes become too apparent.

However, there are a lot of things that can be done to alleviate the condition as well as to help a woman to shed undesired pounds. They will require time, effort and desire in the first place, but they are really worth of the result.

In the first place you need to understand the real reasons for the condition. It happens because your hormonal levels become imbalanced. This causes weight gain. During menopause estrogen levels reduce gradually in a woman’s organism and therefore her organism does everything to restore the balance by any means. A woman tends to eat more in order to have the nutrient she is missing. Estrogen is obtained from fat and therefore, all the fat consumed becomes stored by the organism in order to have the missing estrogen.

One more reason why menopausal women tend to gain pounds is that metabolic rate decreases. Earlier menopausal signs were indicators for women to slow down and prepare for aging process. However, you just have to do the opposite and keep being active; otherwise you will end up gaining more and more pounds.

What is the way out? You need to understand (and accept) the fact that these changes are inevitable and there is nothing you can possibly do to prevent them. However, you can make the things easier for you. Stay active, or become active if you weren’t. This is very important. You do not need anything hard and enduring like long marathon, any exercise done regularly will do. Try tennis or badminton, or yoga, or pilates – whatever you like.

If you are short of money, there is a solution as well – go for a walk. It is extremely beneficial for your health and it is also a good mild form of exercise. 20 minutes a day on a regular basis will make you feel better and help you to keep fit. As long as you make some changes in your diet plan, you will see, how much easier it is to live.
