Weight gain is never easy from psychological side but it is easier to handle provided that you know that it is all because of the certain changes that your body has to undergo during this period.

Menopausal weight gain is mostly seen in the abdomen area so that you appear to seem rounder and not as slim as you used to be. Moreover, women experience some health problems during menopausal period as well. The risk of a heart attack, diabetes and hypertension is increased.

Hormonal changes influence weight gain differently. Less estrogen is produced, therefore evoking the reduction of the progesterone levels in the body. That is why water retention is so frequent and easy in menopausal women. Moreover, a woman becomes resistant to insulin and, therefore, calories tend to turn into fat.

Besides, you may wonder why you feel hungry all the time. You eat more than you used to and it all is explained by the drops in hormonal levels as well.

You gain weight in your 40’s and 50’s also because some of your lifestyle habits have changed. Mostly a woman has got a family and a full-time household set of duties to perform having little time left for herself to look after. More stress and medications start to enter the life, while exercising and healthy diets step away. Moreover, a lot of people decide to quit smoking and drinking and therefore gain some pounds due to this decision. However, some simple changes in your lifestyle back to the ones you used to have when in youth can be pretty dramatic; and they are not so hard, really.

You should understand that as long as you become older, your organism tend to require less calories and more activity to preserve its form. If you accept it as a given, it will be easier to plan your diet and activities in general; the whole thing will not make you so much depressed.

Mind also, that if you are constantly stressed, you will have to make double effort to lose weight. Deal with your stress first and then start with shedding pounds. As soon as you handle this, kilograms will be removed easier, really.
