A blurred vision is generally already disturbing enough – but even more disturbing are spectacles, which caused bruising, constantly shuffling or simply represent a limitation.
However, that there are small and invisible contact lenses, which are not so disturbing. But what kinds of lenses are good and what are the advantages and disadvantages of small lenses, which adhere to the eye?
It was already in the year 1636 as René Descartes described his idea, a lens directly on the eye to bear. What was even more inconceivable was the end of the 19th Century feasible: the first so-called “plexi-eye” Glass emerged. Through their material and their size, they were however not very comfortable to wear. That changed around 1949 as a glass instead of Plexiglas was used. This material was still no oxygen permeable, but already had over a period of 10 – 12 hour wear.
The first hard contact lens, which was also oxygen permeable, was founded in 1976 on the market. Today, the lenses through the development of the plastic high permeability and have a fixed-flexible form. The hard contact lenses with a diameter of 8-10mm on a tear film directly on the eye and thus carry a lower risk of injury to the eye. The eye can be better with oxygen and nutrients supplied. The only negative part is that the lens through aging processes possibly can deform and damage the cornea.
Soft contact lenses, however, are flexible and adapt to the shape of the cornea. They have a diameter of 12-16mm, so that the edges of the lens are soft. Thus they sit solid in the eye and may be just in sports activities are not so easily lost. Detrimental to hard contact lenses is that nutritional disorders, deposits on the lenses, oxygen and other factors, the risk of injury to the eye are higher.
For some time there are also daily contact lenses, thrown after single use. Also available are so-called silicone hydrogel lenses, over a longer period of time during the day and at night can be worn. Only after 30 days, they must be replaced with a new one. Eye doctors have not yet agreed whether it is healthy to the eyes; the lenses are actually over several days without interruption to bear. No matter what type of lenses you decide: The advantages over other visual aids are great. For example, the field of view is no longer restricted, as happened with glasses is the case. Even the appearance does not change and tarnish or contact lenses can not gather dust. Many also find it very beneficial; that they finally do not need special sunglasses made in their vision, but on all models on the market to fall back upon.
So long as you enjoy the contact lenses, the hygiene part is very important. In order to enjoy the benefits, the cleaning, disinfecting, storage, removal and protein (After) with special wetting agents and recommended solutions. This, however, are not covered by the insurance company itself and must be worn.
Before buying contact lenses, it is also recommended to have a closer examination from an ophthalmologist, whether for the wearing of contact lenses is suitable. There will usually include recommendations on the type of contact lenses involved in the selection process.
