Diagnosed annually in Europe, around 46,000 people in a newly
bronchial cancer (RKI 2008). With approximately 32,850 new cases where men are much more frequently affected than women. However, the number of cases are steadily growing among women. The reason: More and more
women smoke.
Lung cancer risk and prevention
About 90 percent of all lung cancer cases are attributed to
smoking. Cigarette smoke contains numerous carcinogenic substances. An
increased risk also have passive smokers. Substances such as asbestos,
known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and ionizing radiation, the
emergence of lung cancer also benefit.
So far there is no evidence for the efficacy of screening tests
for lung cancer. The body sends signals, however, where a doctor is

Treatment
The doctors diagnose lung cancer with the help of X-ray images of
the lungs, a study of cells in sputum or a reflection of the lung
