A Guide to Getting Whiter Teeth

As we grow older, our teeth lose their shiny white color. This can be due to several reasons ranging from cigarette smoke, years of coffee drinking or simply poor mouth hygiene. People resort to buying various whitening products or going to the dentist to perform teeth whitening operations. While these methods may help you have whiter teeth, they are also not one hundred percent safe. Moreover, they can be quite expensive.

The two most widely suggested home techniques for whitening your teeth include using baking soda or hydrogen peroxide. Before we continue, it is important to take note of the fact that you should never use these two methods simultaneously. The technique is quite simple, really. All you have to do is apply one of these products on your toothbrush and brush just like you would normally brush your teeth with toothpaste.

If you are using hydrogen peroxide, you should brush your teeth for around two minutes. On the other hand, baking soda should be used to brush for around five minutes. Moreover, baking soda is a much stronger substance, so you should brush with it about three times per month. Hydrogen peroxide can be used up to three times per week. It is important to spit out the baking soda or hydrogen peroxide and rinse out your mouth with water thoroughly. Do not worry if you feel that your mouth is slightly burning as this is a normal effect of baking soda.

Remember that baking soda has very abrasive properties. Never use it more than you have been advised. Also, if you are wearing non-removable braces, do not use baking soda as it can damage them. If you have removable braces, make sure to remove them and only put them back on after you have rinsed out your mouth properly.

If you use these methods consistently and on a regular basis, you should be able to experience positive effects in a relatively short period of time. Keep in mind that brushing with baking soda or hydrogen peroxide is not meant to be a substitute for brushing with toothpaste. Toothpaste is still essential for having and maintaining shiny white teeth. You should preferable choose a good and proven brand of toothpaste that has special whitening properties as this will help you achieve our goal in a shorter period of time. Proper dental hygiene is still the most important factor in having white teeth.
