Sagging neck is caused by loss of elastin and collagen, which make skin firm and elastic. With age the release of collagen and elastin reduces, leading to sagging neck and skin. Aside from these, free radicals and exposure to the sun cause premature aging.
Sagging Neck Treatment
Aging is inevitable but it can be postponed by proper skin care. There are 3 treatments for sagging neck, skin care products, firming exercises and lift surgery. Surgery is done by the cosmetologists, and greatly improves the look. But, it poses risks, like nerve injury, swelling, and surgical scar.
It is better to use non invasive methods. The first step is to regularly moisturize the skin. Use skin product to stimulate the release of elastin and collagen. Products with coenzyme Q10, and vitamin A, E are useful for making skin supple and firm.
On the other side, products with keratin and copper peptides can speed up the collagen production. Skin products containing hydroxy acids exfoliate dead cells, and stimulate the growth of new cells.
Exercises for Sagging Neck
- Sit down and try to look up at the ceiling with your mouth closed, start chewing motions. Make minimum 20 chews at one time, and do the exercise 3 times per day.
- Stand in front of the mirror, jut out the chin. Keep the position for 5 – 10 seconds, and relax the muscles. Chin exercise should be performed 3 times every day.
- Neck extension and flexion help to firm up the skin on the neck. Neck flexion is moving your head forward, and neck extension is leaning it backward. To perform neck flexion you need to lie down on the back and slowly tuck the chin to your chest. Repeat the exercises several times. For neck extension, lie down on the belly, move the head upwards, get back to the initial pose and repeat several times.
If exercises and skin care don’t work, the last option is surgery. Neck lift surgery poses risks, which you should discuss with the cosmetologist before undergoing the procedure. It is possible to prevent sagging neck or delay the condition for some time by proper skin care, and toning exercises. People spend too much money and time on enhancing skin on the face, and often forget about the neck. Skin on the neck is prone to early aging signs. So, take proper care of your neck. Maintain correct body poses, avoid sitting with the face down. Hold your head quite high. Finally, drink plenty of liquids and stick to a balanced healthy diet to have young and radiant skin.
