To be a bit shy is good for children. Although it is easier to manage timid and shy children, however extreme shyness may prevent the proper development of a kid in future. Children, who failed to cope with shyness become adults with poor social skills. Therefore it is important for kids to overcome extreme shyness early otherwise this may result in low self-esteem and prevent personality development.
In fact, shyness in children can be caused by a number of factors. Most causes are attributed to the way the kids are nurtured.
Extreme Emotional Sensitivity
There are children who are born more vulnerable and sensitive than others. Such children require delicate treatment because they may close in themselves due to insensitivity to the feelings they have. These children are scared to face new things as they are afraid of being hurt.
Imitation of Parental Behavior
Imitation is the way children learn. So, if parents are shy by nature, it is highly probable that children will be shy too. Parents serve as role models for their children.
Insecurity can result in shyness in children. Abusive parents make children feel shy and insecure.
Dominating and Criticizing Parents
Children hide in a shell if they are constantly criticized. They are simply afraid of making mistakes which causes shyness.
Low confidence can be the cause of shyness in children. The low confidence can be triggered by comparison with siblings, peer pressure, and bullying at school.
If a kid is subject to long isolation from the society, he or she won’t have a possibility to learn communicative skills in developing interaction. If a child after long isolation is suddenly subject to social communication, it provokes shyness. Bad experience often lowers the confidence, further isolating them.

To overcome shyness successfully parents should be patient and first of all need to understand the reason their child is so shy.
