As far as the keto diet is concerned, your menu should include poultry, red meat, fish and eggs (to say nothing of vegetables that should accompany these foods packed with protein). Steaks, salmon (especially if it is wild), chicken breasts, avocados and the like usually cost quite a lot, so it takes a well-off person to be able to follow the diet consistently.

After a month of being a keto adept, you can find yourself being broke. Don’t worry, though, as with the advice below you can cut down on your food expenses without abandoning your keto preferences.

#1. Opt for local markets

Being on a tight budget means you should consider changing the way you do your grocery shopping. Instead of going to some chain store, head to the local market where local farmers are ready to offer you fresh meat, eggs and poultry at a lower price. Such an approach has a lot of benefits, as you get the foods you need without spending a fortune on it, the quality of food is usually high due to short distances between the farm and the place where it is sold, which means additives and preservatives are not used, and you also contribute to the development of your area’s economy by supporting local farmers.

#2. Buy in bulk

Be it meat, poultry or fish, buying in bulk can be a way out if the keto diet becomes a financial burden. You could unite with other family members who are also on the diet or just purchase an additional freezer. Frozen meat can be stored for quite a long time, which means you won’t have to buy it every couple of days. Buying in bulk enables you to pay less, and it is one of the key aspects of the making-keto-affordable strategy.

The same is true of vegetables, though it is a little bit tricky. Not all vegetables can be frozen, and some of their properties may change or be lost when they are on the table again. However, there are ways to save money by buying some veggies in bulk: for instance, avocado flesh can be frozen and used later. The idea here is to buy vegetables that are ripe and won’t last long. It does not mean they are rotting and thus not edible: there is still time to consume them, but not much, and that is why such foods are usually offered at a discount. #3. Do not neglect offal

Chicken breasts and steaks are not the only constituents of poultry and beef. There is offal too, which can also be used to cook delicious keto meals, such as sautéed chicken liver. If you find dishes made with heart or lungs gross, consider buying chicken thighs: they are noble enough to be on your plate but are cheaper than chicken breasts.

#4. Use eggs in various dishes

Eggs are an affordable source of protein, and they are so versatile that you can use them in a wide range of dishes, from salads to soups. Eating dozens of them daily is unlikely to benefit your health, but a couple of them a day reportedly won’t hurt and can even be considered part of a healthy diet.
