Why do we become depressed?
Depression is a mood disorder; it is a complex of mental disorders associated primarily with the emotional sphere. Depression is characterized by various emotional disturbances. Being depressed, people experience anxiety , anguish and apathy, a state when a person does not experience either negative or positive emotions. People who have depression lose the ability to experience happiness.
Depression has such physiological manifestations as sleep disorder, intestinal problems and sexual problems. People with depression usually feel exhausted and powerless.
People of any age and any gender can become victims of depression. It happens because modern society exerts significant pressure on people. People are trying to fit all the standards modern life has and when we cannot do it, we fall into despair, because it is hard to be an outsider in your own life, and as a result, we get depressed.
Depressive disorder can also occur because of a severe psychological trauma, such as death of a close relative, a divorce, a breakdown with a loved one or a serious illness. Sometimes depression occurs without any obvious reason. Scientists suggest that in such situations the reason of depression might lie in an improper work of neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine, etc.).

American scientists have found out that people, who eat more plant food and food with low content of fat, can overcome depression faster.
Experts conducted research that has lasted for more than six years. They examined the state of health of about 1,000 people whose average age was 80 years. The researchers divided the volunteers into three groups according to the degree of adherence to a special diet called DASH.
DASH diet was created for people, who suffer from high blood pressure. This diet includes low-fat products plant food and whole grains, but restricts the consumption of the food rich in saturated fats and sugar.
It was stated that people, who kept to DASH diet, were less likely to have depression. In addition, they reduced the risk of depression development by more than 10 percent. Mediterranean diet was recognized as less healthy, but still acceptable. And western diet that includes a lot of saturated fats and very little vegetable and fruits was called the least healthy for our body and our psychology.
Still, the researchers highlight that they have just found that DASH diet can influence the degree of depression and that they have to investigate it further to find out the mechanism of this influence.
We live in a world that is too fast, and when we are not able to cope with everything on time, we just start to blame ourselves and fall into depression. One of the methods that we can use to overcome depression is to stick to a special DASH diet. This diet can help you to maintain your mental and physical health.
